BOLIVIA, Oruro, April 11, 2024 (GPA). Judge Odal Herrera of Oruro, a constitutional judge, said no to the action for freedom brought by the women of Totoral Chico, Oruro, who were practically expelled from their communities by mining activity.

Lawyer Beatriz Bautista, who supports the indigenous people affected by the miners, told Correo del Sur that there had not been an adequate assessment of the urgency of the situation.

The Avicaya union was represented by lawyers. Previously, it denied the allegations, but acknowledged clashes.

The resolution is of first instance and will go to the Plurinational Constitutional Court.

Community members of Totoral Chico, from the Acre Antequera ayllu, arrived this Monday from Oruro to La Paz to denounce that they are victims of aggressions, threats and persecution by miners who carry out exploitation activities in their territory, which is already affected.

They reported that they were even attacked with sticks when they held a vigil to prevent mining activity.

“They have outraged us, they have intimidated us, they have thrown dynamite at us, they have threatened us with death. They have called us aberrations. They have told us ‘if your husband doesn’t hit you, come on, I’m going to hit you’,” said leader Claribel Ventura.
