PERU, Lima, July 30, 2026 (GPA) In a ceremony held in Lima, the National Elections Board (JNE) today proclaimed Keiko Fujimori as the president-elect of the Republic of Peru for the period 2026-2031.
«A new stage begins. We assume it with responsibility, humility, and a deep sense of duty. Each day of this transition process is an opportunity to listen, dialogue, and arrive prepared for the start of the new government,» Fujimori stated in a message broadcast on X.
In this way, the leader of Fuerza Popular becomes the first woman elected by popular vote to govern Peruvians for the next five years.
Fujimori thanked the millions of Peruvians who voted for his candidacy and presented the official social media accounts where he will share the progress of the transition process and, later, of his administration.
According to 100% of the tally sheets compiled by the National Office of Electoral Processes (ONPE), Keiko Fujimori obtained 9,223,396 votes (50.135%), compared to 9,173,755 votes for the leftist candidate Roberto Sánchez (49.865%).
«Now that the electoral process is over and the results have been announced by the JNE, I am deeply grateful for the trust that millions of Peruvians have placed in me,» he said.
The proclamation ceremony formally closed the electoral process corresponding to the second round of the presidential elections in Peru.
